GALVESTON — The Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office is working to identify the remains of a drowning victim discovered Saturday on the island's West End.

The body of a man was found facedown close to the high-tide mark on the beach near the 21000 block of FM 3005.

The Galveston Fire Department, police, and beach patrol all responded to a call around 8:40 a.m. Saturday reporting the discovery of the body.

The beach patrol had received no reports of missing persons on the beach, and the body was taken to the medical examiner's office for identification and autopsy.

Although the medical examiner had not yet released the victim's name, a member of the beach patrol described him as appearing to be a Caucasian in his early 20s. The Galveston Police Department is investigating the death.
